Zach is Eleanor's biological father, they had a good relationship before the Salvatore brothers came into town, Zach was a lone parent and had raised Eleanor by his self. Zach was always protective over Eleanor and she never knew why, but with the Salvatore brother's arrival she soon found out. Zach had heard stories about the vampires threw his parents and his grandparents. Although he withheld that information from Eleanor, not wanting her to get to interested in the family history because she seemed to have a fascination with paranormal romance books and the otherworldly creatures. Before the Salvatore brothers came Zach kept his distant from his daughter and gave her her own space but after their arrival of the older brothers he began to become more protective and over bearing.
